These mighty creatures inhabit the Sri Lankan coast, showing off for tourists and locals alike. In Sri Lanka, blue whales, which can be as long as 29 meters, can be spotted along the coast of Mirissa all year round. But you never know what the day will bring when you go whale watching because just as with any other safari, it is the animals that decide when to appear. Luck was on my side when I visited in November. I got a close look at a tail fluke and a chance to learn more about these fascinating animals in their natural habitat.
