Vicious yet gorgeous

One afternoon, while walking on my terrace I spotted a Indian paper wasp (Ropalidia marginata) nest built on some aluminium poles that were stacked up. After observing the nest and the wasps for a while, I felt that they would make excellent and interesting subjects. Usually people tend to fear and stay as far away as possible from wasps due to their aggressive behavior of chasing and stinging in order to defend the nests. Although I was afraid of being stung or bitten, I did not want to miss the opportunity of being able to photograph these gorgeous creatures.  I spent the next few hours making videos and capturing images of the wasps and their nest. Even after numerous attempts, the shots I got were mostly blurred or underexposed.  The next day I was lucky enough to get a few clear shots. Two days later while trying to capture an image from a different angle, I witnessed a wasp bring in a morsel of food back to the nest and distribute it between two other wasps. I quickly depressed the shutter release button and to my surprise I had successfully got a clear shot. What joy it was to watch them feed!
