The beach that disappeared

Now known as the Rock beach, a beach filled with rocks instead of sand. During my childhood in yearly 90s, I remember the shoreline of Puducherry used to be around 100 meters. It has shirked to none over the years. It is estimated that around 8km of beach had completely disappeared. Erosion. The Government has taken several steps during the last decade like building sea walls, artificial rock line along the coast and even pumping out sea water. Though these steps are counteractive method to prevent the erosion, man-made techniques had only just slowed down the process. However globally, there are many examples of reefs permanently solving the problem of erosion, by blocking waves to provide a sheltered zone and create a wide beach. Hopefully over the next few years if it is taken care with continuous sand nourishment, Puducherry may have a wider beach filled with sand again.
