In the wild, elephants can travel between 3.2 to 12.0 kilometers a day. These majestic animals fiercely protect their young ones. During one of my visits to Masinagudi in Tamil Nadu I came across an elephant herd travelling with a young one. The calf was marching in between four other elephants (of which three have been captured in the image) and was trying to walk as quickly as it could to match the pace of the adults. The photograph shows the rear view of the herd walking as though they were providing security to the young one.
