St. Kilda, Melbourne is also popular for its resident Fairy Penguins which come every night to rest and leave before the first morning light. I first shot them with my 600mm but looking at their friendly behaviour I saw a chance to shoot them wide open at 18mm for more interesting shots. I came next day and waited until 1am for people to go away. Eventually the penguins start crossing the path from one side to other. I sat there for 20 mins besides this penguin on a chilling windy winter night. The penguin soon got comfortable enough to allow me to lie down and take shots at an ultra wide angle. This chap was maybe 40cms from the lens front. Awesome first experience with penguins in wild. Highly recommended for any birding enthusiast in/visiting Melbourne.
