Canon Announces the EOS 200D: Lightest EOS DSLR Camera with a Vari-angle Monitor
On 29 June 2017, Canon announced the EOS 200D, a new DSLR camera targeted at entry users. Featuring a 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and a Vari-angle LCD monitor within a compact body, it also supports Wi-Fi/NFC and Bluetooth low energy. (Reported by: Makoto Suzuki (Digital Camera Watch))
Seamless Live View shooting with Dual Pixel CMOS AF
The EOS 200D is the successor to the EOS 100D (released in April 2013), which had been crowned the world's smallest APS-C DSLR camera. Featuring Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which allows seamless Live View shooting, as well as connectivity via Wi-Fi/NFC and Bluetooth. It has also been equipped with a Vari-angle monitor and is Canon's lightest DSLR camera to feature one.
Like its predecessor, the EOS 100D, the EOS 200D is characterised by its compact body, with some features such as user-friendly controls and enhanced smartphone connectivity much reminiscent of the EOS 800D.
Indeed, it shares many key technologies with the EOS 800D, such as the APS-C-size CMOS sensor with 24.2 effective megapixels. Its native ISO speed range is from.100 – 25600 (up to ISO 51200 expanded), and it can record movies in quality as high as Full HD 50p/60p. In Live View shooting, it uses Dual Pixel CMOS AF, whereas for viewfinder shooting, it inherits the 9 AF points (1 cross-type point at centre) of the EOS 100D. Continuous shooting speed, however, has been improved to up to 5 frames per second.
It also newly features the ability to pair with a smartphone with Bluetooth low energy technology, providing a constant connection so that you can browse, view and transfer images in the camera from your smartphone, even when the camera is powered off.
The external dimensions are 122.4 × 92.6 × 69.8mm, and the black edition weighs approximately 453g* (including battery and memory card).

3 body colours to choose from
The exterior design of the EOS 200D features a mode dial that is seamlessly embedded into the body for easy operation with your thumb while shooting, without the need to change the way you hold the camera with your right hand. The Power On/Off switch has also been moved beside the mode dial, and a Wi-Fi button newly added to the top panel, on the left.
Subtle details have also been added to the controls, such as a spin finishing to the outer edges of the shutter button and knurling to the Quick Control dials, all with the aim of emphasizing a sense of luxury. All these give the EOS 200D a refreshing new look and feel, especially when compared with other entry-level DSLR models.
There are also three body colours to choose from: black, silver and white*. If you purchase the silver or white camera body with the kit, the EF-S18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens will be the silver version. The lens itself utilizes a stepping motor which ensures fast AF during Live View shooting.
*Please check with your local Canon sales office on the colours available in your country.
