Since 2008, Anime Festival Asia (AFA) has been the largest and most-followed Japanese pop culture event in Southeast Asia, drawing J-pop lovers from across the region to an exhibition that centres around all things J-pop including anime, anisong, cosplay and more.
From 30 April to 4 May, lovers of all things J-pop thronged the halls of BITEC Bangna, Bangkok as AFA Asia 2015 made its much-anticipated debut in Thailand. Big name companies from the aniculture industry, including Daisuki, Bandai, Banpresto, Megahouse, Starchild, Sony, NHK World, Bushiroad, brought with them event-only featured merchandise to the delight of the festival-goers.
Throughout the long weekend, fans were also kept entertained by the many games and activities such as cosplay guest-star meet-and-greet sessions, where fans not only got to engage in Q&A and autograph sessions with these guest cosplayers from across Asia but also take photographs with their favourite cosplayer stars.
At the AFA Regional Cosplay Championships (RCC), avid Thai cosplay fans put up spirited displays in front of a judging panel that consisted of the AFA's guest cosplayers. The winning cosplayers won the right to represent Thailand in the AFA RCC finals to be held at AFA Singapore in November 2015.
On the exhibitions grounds, the Canon booth drew quite the crowd with their photo booths providing popular backdrops for picture taking, as well as one of the biggest draws of this AFA edition – the Canon Camera 360 view setup. A never-ending stream of festival goers took turns to give their best jump-shots, their mid-air poses shot from all sides by the nifty Camera 360. These coolly-captured images no doubt made for great keepsakes from the festival.
Fans looked forward to the many guest cosplay stars' performances.
