Seeing the Bigger Picture

The new EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R have given new meanings to high-resolution photography with its incredible megapixels and a host of impressive capability. We speak with award-winning photographer Ho Le Hoang Vu for some insights to both models.

Have you ever wondered how to achieve the amazing photographs and visuals seen in art galleries, on outdoor advertisements or in television commercials? Besides a camera with extraordinary megapixels, it also requires a remarkable camera body to achieve such results.

Created for mid-level and professional photographers, Canon's record-holding DSLRs, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R, are the highest resolution 35mm format DSLR cameras in the market. With an impressive 50.6-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, it is no wonder that internationally acclaimed photographer Ho Le Hoang Vu sings its praises. "I personally believe that with the new processor and a 50.6-megapixel sensor, EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R have a higher shooting speed, sharper and more vivid colors, as well as a wider dynamic range to retain shadow," he claims.

It is especially a thrill for editorial, landscape and advertising photographers, thanks to its optical Low-Pass Filter Cancellation (EOS 5DS R only) that gives users a full advantage of the original 50.6 million effective pixels (preserving extreme details), as well as an advanced 61-point High-Density Reticular AF system with 41 cross-type points for incredible sharpness, accuracy and focusing capabilities across the frame. However, it is the ultra-high resolution that makes both models indisputably promising. "Having such resolution helps in printing large commercial photos with exceptional sharpness. It also allows users to crop and re-arrange the composition while maintaining a high resolution quality, enabling them to create their own professional styles without compromising on the image quality," says Ho Vu.

Ho Vu is more than impressed with the power duo. "This is truly revolutionary as EOS 5DS's and EOS 5DS R's resolution is equivalent to medium format cameras (excellent for huge prints) but with a more affordable price tag," the multiple award winner explains. Not only can they shoot continuously at a rapid five frames per second, both models also boast a multi-featured Full HD Movie capture for recording stunning videos.

If you are considering an upgrade of your DSLR, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R are undeniably one of the stronger contenders for mid-level and professional photographers.
