Canon has just announced the first ever macro lens for cameras in its EOS M series—the EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM. The new lens is equipped with built-in Macro Lites that allow users to enjoy macro photography with lighting. It also comes with a “Super Macro” mode, which enables magnification of up to 1.2 times. Canon has announced its latest addition to its series of lenses for its EOS M mirrorless cameras—the EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM.

The first ever macro lens in the EF-M series, it has a 35mm equivalent focal length of 45mm. Two built-in LED Macro Lites are built into the front of the lens, on both sides near the lens glass, allowing an effect similar to that of a ring flash. A button located on the lens barrel allows you to turn either one or both of these lights on and off as well as select between two brightness options. The lens also comes with a Super Macro mode, which enables you to set the maximum magnification to 1.2x, more than life-size magnification in normal mode.
The in-lens image stabilizer mechanism includes Hybrid IS, which corrects angular shake (where the camera is tilted) as well as shift shake (which occurs when the camera is displaced along a plane). AF is driven by a stepping motor (STM).

Lens construction is made up of 11 elements in 10 groups, and includes of 2 aspherical and 1 UD lens elements. Minimum focusing distance is 0.097m in normal mode, and 0.093m in Super Macro mode.

The EF-M28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM is 45.5mm long with an outer diameter of 60.9mm, and weighs approximately 130g in total.

With the dedicated (and bundled) ES-22 Lens Hood attached. The ES-22 Lens Hood prevents the white ring from the built-in Macro Lites from being reflected onto the subjects. It also fits a 43mm filter.
