This bull race event was held in Bukitinggi, in the Tanah Datar (a regency of West Sumatra) is not designed with tourists in mind. The race originated as post-harvest entertainment and a celebration for the villagers and has been taking place for centuries, even before the Indonesian independence. In the past, the event was held only twice a year, but the shortening of rice harvest cycles has allowed more frequent instalments of pacu jawi. This event is essentially photographer-centric and guarantees an immersive experience that bonds us shutterbugs with our gear, as we traverse the race course (a wet muddy padi field) in search of the best angles. I hope you enjoy the exotic captures and perhaps go on one. #Indonesia #padang #bullrace #pacujawi #tanahdatar #canon #canonphotographers #canonmirrorless
