3 Reasons to Get the EOS 800D

In this article:

Announced in February 2017, the EOS 800D is a DSLR camera that caters to entry-level users and the latest model to feature a greater ease of operability and an improved AF ability. In the following, I go over 3 advantages of the EOS 800D. (Reported by: Yuki Marubashi)

Reason #1: With the vari-angle LCD monitor, you can shoot with ease from all sorts of different angles

The vari-angle LCD monitor makes shooting at various angles and positions possible, whether it is shooting at a low position close to the floor, or at low and high angles which are difficult when done through the viewfinder. The horizontal-flip vari-angle LCD monitor lets you to change its angle in all four directions, which means you can shoot in Live View with ease, be it high angle photos of food on the table while seated down, such as in the picture below, or shots from a child’s eye-level. Shooting vertical compositions in Live View is also very convenient.

Reason #2: Intuitive operations with its new user interface

The new user interface offers visual guidance in the form of a new Guided mode that helps you navigate the camera settings according to how you want your picture to turn out. Camera settings are explained with the aid of informative illustrations and example pictures, so that beginners who do not understand camera terminology such as ‘aperture’ or ‘f-number’ can now understand them intuitively. This interface also enables users to learn about shooting tips and camera operations. Needless to say, you can also switch to the traditional camera menu display and shooting screen if you prefer.

EOS 800D/ EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM/ FL: 135mm (216mm equivalent)/ Aperture-priority AE (f/5.6, 1/250 sec, EV-0.3)/ ISO 800/ WB: Daylight

Adjust the amount of bokeh in Guided mode.

Reason #3: Capture precious expressions of your subjects with AF based on colour tracking

During viewfinder shooting, the EOS 800D carries out Colour Detection AF, identifying skin tones and prioritizing focus on people. Even with different subjects in the foreground and background, it is able to achieve pin point focus onto the face of a child in the background. Moreover, selecting ‘Face + Tracking AF’ in during Live View shooting enables face detection and focus to be achieved quickly.

EOS 800D/ EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM/ FL: 42mm (67mm equivalent)/ Aperture-priority AE (f/6.3, 1/320 sec, EV+0.3)/ ISO 1600/ WB: Auto (Ambience-priority)
