We often know what clothes to pack and which toiletries to bring when travelling overseas, but what about our camera equipment and accessories? Let us help with this simple checklist to make sure that you have everything you need for your photography adventure!
1. Camera
Having a good camera is important when capturing important moments during your travels. The Canon EOS M50 mirrorless camera is the first EOS M camera to feature Dual Sensing IS, a powerful image stabilisation technology that reduces camera shake (no more blurry photos!) and can achieve high-speed continuous shooting of up to 10 fps so you will not miss out on any details.
2. Lens
While the EF-M18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens is great as an all-in-one, versatile lens for everyday use and shooting far away subjects, the EF-M11-22mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM lens is useful for especially landscapes, architecture and street photos thanks to its wide angle. Switch between these two lenses to get the best framing and version of the subject.
3. Battery
The problem we face is that we often may not always remember to charge our camera battery. That is why bringing an extra one is always a good idea in case one of them runs out of power.
4. Battery Charger
Even if your battery is not completely drained, recharge it at night to prepare for the next day’s shoot, because you never know what you would miss if your battery runs out.
5. Memory Card
Shooting in RAW format gives you greater flexibility when it comes to post-processing your photos. However, that also means taking up more memory space due to a larger file size. Moreover, you may also want to shoot videos of those candid moments. Bring along an extra SD card in case the one you are using runs out of space.
6. Cleaning Kit
A cleaning kit is important as you should clean dust, sand and water off your lens as often as possible. A basic cleaning kit consists of a lens blower and a microfiber lens cleaning cloth.
7. Camera Strap
Always use a camera strap because accidental slips can be costly (think repair cost and replacement). When you are not hanging the strap around your neck, wrap it around your wrist.
8. Tripod
If you plan to take shots that require long exposure (e.g. waterfall, car trails, night sky), then a tripod is necessary to help you achieve that. Without a tripod, your photos may turn out blurry due to camera shake.
9. Reflector
A reflector is good if you are planning to shoot portraits. Bounce off or diffuse natural light to create a well-lit portrait.
10. Other Necessities
Wear comfortable clothes to keep yourself cool/warm, and apply sunblock whenever necessary. Bring along Ziploc bags to keep your small equipment dry during wet weather conditions.
