Capturing the Hues of Hue with Justin Mott

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, EF16-35mm f/4L IS USM lens, f/4.5, 16mm, 1/500, ISO100

Think Vietnam and you can practically hear the cacophony of sounds ringing in your ear; of steady chatter, persistent honks and engines roaring to life. It’s hard to imagine this bustling country as it was centuries ago, a slower, more tranquil time – until now.

1 man, 1 city, 3 trades. Renown photographer Justin Mott explores the trades of a bygone area in the city of Hue, once home to Vietnamese royalty. The city is known for three once-dominant trades of Vietnam: traditional incense stick making, pottery and fishing. This episode sees Justin traveling across Hue in search of adventure as he delves into a Vietnam untouched by the modern tendrils of time.

View Hue through his lens as he showcases the art of capturing street photography, revealing the way of life of their people, undisturbed. Watch as Justin shoots the colours of the imperial citadel, tries his hand at incense stick making in the colourful Thuy Xuan village, visits one of the oldest villages in Hue to learn more about traditional pottery and wades into waters of Hue’s last remaining fishing village.
