Nature's Zombies

2019-08-19

What started off as a casual shoot in the forests on Singapore led to the discovery of nature's most unforgiving moments. This Robberfly is an unfortunate victim of the deadly fungus , Ophiocordyceps dipterigena, also known as Cordyceps. Once an insect is infected, the fungus is able to force its victim to climb up plants and secure itself, waiting to die. This fungus then emerges out from the exoskeleton of the zombified insect and spreads its spores to start the cycle again by infecting other insects. Freaky! Taken with the EOS 80D and 100mm f2.8L lens.
