On 24 September 2020, Canon announced the launch of EOS C70, the newest addition to the Cinema EOS System. Utilizing Canon’s RF lens mount, the new camera achieves a compact and lightweight design1 and supports 4K/120P high frame rate recording, enabling rich visual expression.

Enter a new age of filmmaking
The EOS C70 is the first Cinema EOS System camera to be equipped with an RF mount, which makes it compatible with any of the RF lenses from Canon’s EOS R System. When equipped with the Mount Adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x (sold separately), the camera can also support the extensive lineup of lenses from the EF lens series2, opening up a myriad of possibilities for creative cinematography.
Mount Adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x
The Mount Adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x allows for compatibility between the EOS C70 and EF Mount lenses. This allows for prior lens investments to stay relevant and usable with the newest Cinema EOS camera that Canon has to offer by offering full electronic compatibility between EF lenses and RF Mount cameras.
Promising the same performance as EOS C300 in a much smaller body
Featuring a 4K Super 35mm CMOS DGO (Dual Gain Output) sensor, the EOS C70 can capture high-image-quality 4K video in 4:2:2 (10-bit) color that delivers rich gradation, even in environments with significantly high contrast which demands high dynamic range. Moreover, the camera is equipped with the DIGIC DV7 image-processing platform capable of high-speed processing, enabling users to record high-frame rate 4K/120P video to UHS-II standard SD cards.
Super 35mm DGO Sensor
Canon’s Super 35mm DGO sensor that debuted in the EOS C300 Mark III is the heart of the image in the new EOS C70, promising the same performance as its older sibling in a much smaller body. High dynamic range images of up to 16+ stops with low noise can be captured, re-imagining the creative possibilities of such a compact body.

The body of EOS C70 is comparable to the size of a mirrorless camera.
Unlimited Possibilities
Even in a compact body, the EOS C70 comes with two mini XLR terminals,3.5mm microphone and headphone terminals, TimeCode in/out BNC port, and a full-size HDMI terminal that supports 4K 10-bit output.
Duals SD Card Slots
The EOS C70 is equipped with two SD card slots and supports a variety of recording modes such as simultaneous recording, relay recording and 4K/2K recording. The camera also inherits many professional features found in the existing Cinema EOS lines.
Touch Control and Vertical Shooting
Utilising a newly designed direct touch control interface, the EOS C70 has the ability to rotate camera controls on the screen to a portrait orientation. This feature fulfils user requests for vertically-oriented videos to cater for social media content creation for mobile devices. A tripod mount is also integrated into the vertical grip, allowing for easy mounting of the camera in a portrait orientation.
In addition, the camera also incorporates Canon’s proprietary Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, which offers even greater performance with the addition of our Intelligent Tracking and Recognition System. This advanced algorithm developed under deep learning technology works in conjunction with our Face Detection AF and further improves focus tracking, even when a subject is looking away from the camera. Combined with our new highly responsive touch screen, image focusing is now faster and even more intuitive.
EOS C70 is Netflix Approved
Meeting Industry Standards
Keeping up with the latest in filmmaking technology and trends, the EOS C70 fulfils the technically demanding requirements for video capture set by Netflix, allowing the camera to be used for Netflix-commissioned programmes.
