Does the new EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM lens live up to its reputation for outstanding image quality and exceptional performance? We asked local photographer Andy Wong to give us his take.

I’ve had the opportunity to shoot with the new EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM lens and here are my thoughts:
Firstly, the EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM is a bright lens. This means when I’m looking through the viewfinder, it allows me to see the subject clearly, unlike other lens which can be quite dark. Its constant 2.8 f-stop makes it an ideal lens even for low light situations. This is especially useful for interior shoots where the space is poorly lit and the need to rely on natural light.

The EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM lens features minimal distortion, which is a great plus for interior photography. It is one of the sharpest lens I’ve encountered at 16mm from corner to corner. The lens also has a good depth of field, another reason why I enjoyed shooting with this lens.

I encountered little to almost no flare with the EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM lens. It’s a good contrast lens with good colour reproduction as well. This means what you see is what you’ll get on your images. There is a slight vignette effect, which can darken corners by a fair amount. One way I countered this effect was by using a minimum of f/4 to brighten the image.

When it comes to shooting, I find the EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM lens works better with a tripod. With its solid construction and build quality, it can get tiring to carry the lens around. Shooting with a tripod also enables the lens to focus better and achieve maximum sharpness, even under low light conditions.

Overall, I find that the EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM lens is a high-quality lens versatile for everyday work, making it an ideal choice for interior photographers.
