While it’s common to take photos as you’re travelling, these days more people are venturing overseas solely for photography. Here are 5 locations in Asia worth making the trip.

Landscape Photography: Tibet

There are only a few places on Earth one could compare to the landscape wonder that is Tibet. From the Himalayas to Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, one of the longest and deepest in the world, this country is not short of breath-taking sights. Coupled with its cool, arid environment, this is THE place for once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities.

Discover what to pack for your next photo adventure: 5 Landscape Photography Tips

Wildlife Photography: Borneo, Malaysia

At 140 million years old, Asia’s largest island boasts one of the oldest rainforests in the world and is home to some of the richest flowering plants and highly endangered animals. While the rainforest is a wonderful place to shoot, humidity levels can be damaging to your equipment so protect it with Ziploc bags and silica gel packets. When it comes to photo composition, either go wide or macro and focus on smaller wildlife such as birds and insects that can be easier to spot.

Street Photography: Hanoi, Vietnam

One is spoiled for choice when it comes to capturing street photography in Asia. In Hanoi, be charmed by how old and new worlds collide, as you shoot portraits amidst speedy motorcyclists. And this vibrancy continues well past sunset, with plenty of photo opportunities to capture that will put your night photography skills to the test.

Portraiture Photography: India

Some of the best diversity in portraiture can be captured on the streets of India. Focus on aperture for a good grasp on depth of field and exposure. Use a large aperture to achieve a blurry background and try to avoid your camera’s built-in flash. And always ask your subjects before using their photos.

Architectural Photography: Singapore

The juxtaposition of colonial buildings and shophouses with soaring skyscrapers makes Singapore an interesting place to capture architectural diversity. Just take a walk around the city’s streets and you’ll find a good showcase of Singapore’s past and present coming together.
