The launch of Canon’s latest camera, the EOS 5D Mark IV was accompanied by plenty of hype surrounding the addition of cool new features both on hardware and software. Think improved Auto-Focus Tracking, the ability to shoot in Dual Pixel Raw and touchscreen capabilities. But how does it really perform out on the streets? We ask celebrity street photographer Justin Mott.

Canon’s 5D series is known for being the go-to range of cameras for the photographer who shoots everything, and being one of those photographers, I can understand why – their newest EOS 5D Mark IV is one of the most versatile camera’s I’ve ever used.

Just to give you guys a little background, I’ve shot everything from weddings to photojournalism assignments to commercial work to videos with the 5D series, and it’s always performed remarkably. As to the performance of the EOS 5D Mark IV, it can do everything I just mentioned, but at an even higher level.

Incredible details of a man’s face

One of the first things that really stood out to me with this new model was how incredibly sharp and detailed the files are. I took a street portrait of an elderly man (see above photo) and it’s amazing how you can see everything, from the lines in his face to the details in his eyes.

An actual 4K Screen Grab

I also love this camera’s ability to take screen grabs from 4K footage (above photo). The images are really clear! I shoot a lot of hybrid assignments (videos and stills) for my clients and having the ability to pull a high resolution still is a major bonus. I can already see many scenarios where I'm going to use this function!

All around, it's an amazing camera and the next time I need to travel light but still need a camera that can do it all, this will be my go-to option.
