In this article:

As a new addition to the mid-range EOS series, the EOS 80D is an outstanding camera that is easy to use, being able to shoot all kinds of everyday scenes beautifully even in Auto mode. Shooting in Program AE mode, I demonstrate the camera’s true performance and picture quality, and learn what makes its so ideal for street photography. (Photos by:  Yuji Ogura, Edited by: Etica)

You can trust the EOS 80D to give you lovely photos even if you leave all settings up to it

As an all-purpose mid-range camera in the EOS series, the EOS 80D is also recommended for beginners who are serious about taking up photography! It is chock full of features such as fast and accurate autofocus as well as faithful colour reproduction, that let you easily take the pictures you desire.

Reason 1:  It captures low light scenes beautifully

Coffee beans were on display in a dimly lit restaurant in the photo below. The key to taking such a photo without camera shake even in low light scenes is to set a high ISO speed . Although noise tends to stand out at high ISO speeds, the EOS 80D lets you achieve a lovely finishing with little noise with its high normal ISO speed of 16000.

EOS 80D/ EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM/ FL: 71mm/ Program AE (f/5.6, 1/125 sec, EV-2)/ ISO 2500/ WB: Auto

Reason 2: It takes great portraits

The EOS 80D lets you move up close boldly to capture portraits that leave a strong impression. It is equipped with Colour Tracking AF, allowing it to detect the skin tone of a person and realize fast focusing. Of course, it also depicts skin textures beautifully as well.

EOS 80D/ EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM/ FL: 85mm/Program AE (f/5.6, 1/160 sec, EV±0)/ ISO 1000/ WB: Auto

Reason 3: In backlight scenes, it helps you achieve natural-looking brightness

The camera also shines when used in backlit scenes where the light shines in from a window beyond a curtain. The EOS 80D is equipped with a new version of the EOS scene analysis system, which accurately analyses the photographic conditions for you. For example, in the picture below, the details of the fan, which were cast in shadow due to the backlight could be depicted with no black crush.

EOS 80D/ EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM/ FL: 50mm/Program AE (f/5.0, 1/80 sec, EV±0)/ ISO 250/ WB Daylight

Reason 4:  It can also capture  impactful pictures of the sky

Set to negative exposure compensation and depict the station building in a silhouette to capture the twilight moment with more impact. With the new EOS scene analysis system, you can adjust the exposure to the optimal setting and minimise any irregular exposure and colours. This results in a beautiful yellow gradation from the blue sky and orange sun.

EOS 80D/ EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM/ FL: 18mm/Program AE (f/8.0, 1/160 sec, EV-2/3)/ ISO 100/ WB: Auto

EOS 80D Kit II (EF-S18-135 IS USM)

This is the latest mid-range model of the EOS series. Whether you’re shooting stills or videos of moving subjects or low light scenes, the fast and accurate AF system lets you enjoy shooting a variety of scenes comfortably. The camera’s APS-C size sensor also ensures a clear and beautiful finishing to all your photos. Additionally, particular attention has also been paid to the vari-angle touch screen LCD monitor, the optical viewfinder with approximately 100% coverage, and the camera’s ease of use.
