Interview with Resident Professional Photographer Justin Mott
Season 2 of the History Channel’s popular photography competition show, ”Photo Face-Off”, ended to widespread acclaim in end-October. We ask resident photographer Justin Mott about the highlights of the show, available for viewing on its microsite.
From documentary, editorial to commercial photography, Justin Mott has done it all. The award-winning professional photographer has not only seen his work published in the New York Times, TIME, The Guardian, and the BBC, he is also the resident professional photographer to beat in History Asia's photography competition show – Photo Face-Off. We caught up with Justin in Singapore during the press conference for the long anticipated TV show.
"For season two of Photo Face-Off, viewers are going to expect the challenges to be amped up. They can also expect to be entertained, to have a laugh, and a lot of fun," said the pro during the Photo Face-Off press conference.

From Malaysia to the Philippines, Justin and the contestants were faced with so many more challenges compared to the previous season. "For amateur photographers, this show puts you under the fire. You're under extreme pressure, and that's the real deal; that's what you have to do in real photography," Justin said. The seasoned photographer is no stranger to pressure. Born in Rhode Island USA and having based in Southeast Asia for more than eight years, he has photographed everything from sports to disasters to billionaires.
Justin might have been the most important contestant to beat in the show, but he showed no hesitation when it came to giving advice. "The key thing for this show is that at the end of the day, you could shoot a hundred shots, but you only get to pick one shot to submit, so you have to be a good editor of your own work," he advised his fellow contestants.
16 amateur photographers from six different countries are set to compete and become Asia's Photo Face-Off champion. The winner of the show will receive exclusive Canon photo trips and attractive prizes. Season 2 of Photo Face-Off premiered on 22 September on History Asia.
