[Part 2] The Photographic Power of EOS M10 – A Camera for Producing Excellent Snapshots

Boasting a small body but yet excellent photographic power, the EOS M10 was the companion I chose for photographing the streets of Norway. As I snapped away, I got to know where the appeal of the camera lay. Here’s my report. (Reported by: Ikuko Tsurumaki)

The body of the EOS M10 comes in two different colours, white and black.

New lens addresses backlight effectively, reproducing landscapes beautifully

EOS M10/ EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM/ FL: 45mm (equivalent to 72mm in 35mm format)/ Aperture-priority AE (f/10, 1/80 sec, EV±0)/ ISO 100/ WB: Auto

Simply travel 30 minutes by train out of Oslo, the capital of Norway, and you will be able enjoy the beautiful nature. Beyond the tall trees is a lake.

The small body is perfect for casual snapshots

EOS M10/ EF-M22mm f/2.0 STM/ FL: 22mm (equivalent to 35.2mm in 35mm format)/ Aperture-priority AE (f/3.5, 1/4,000 sec., EV±0)/ ISO 400/ WB: Auto

There are many stylish and lovely cafés in Oslo. In this shot is a view of the outside taken through the café's window. The graffiti on the walls of the opposite building forms an interesting contrast with the calm atmosphere of the interior.

Seizing photo opportunities precisely with the high-speed AF of Hybrid CMOS AF II

EOS M10/ EF-M55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM/ FL: 100mm (equivalent to 160mm in 35mm format)/ Aperture-priority AE (f/6.3, 1/800 sec., EV -0.3)/ ISO 100/ WB: Auto

An open space located near the Oslo Central Station. A little girl in a lovely dress was dancing while walking happily. Thanks to the Hybrid CMOS AF II, I was able to capture this fleeting moment.

Using Creative filters to recreate memorable impressions

EOS M10/ EF-M22mm f/2.0 STM/ FL: 22mm (equivalent to 35.2mm in 35mm format)/ Aperture-priority AE (f/3.2, 1/400 sec., -0.3EV)/ ISO 400/ WB: Auto/ Creative filter: Grainy B/W

I captured this wedding dress inside a showcase display using the [Grainy B/W] Creative filter. Removing colours from the image helps to bring out the lace detail on the dress.

Released as the kit lens of the EOS M10, the EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM has an extremely versatile angle-of-view range that is equivalent to about 24 to 70mm in the 35mm format. The lens uses a Stepping Motor (STM) for smooth autofocusing (AF). Compared to the EF-M18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, the EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM has an overall length that is about 26% shorter, making it a compact and easy-to-carry item. Two colour variations are available, so you can choose one according to the body colour of your camera.

EOS M10/ EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM/ FL: 20mm (equivalent to 32mm in 35mm format)/ Aperture-priority AE (f/4, 1/50 sec., EV-1.0)/ ISO 400/ WB: Auto

An advantage of a standard zoom lens is that it makes subtle adjustment of the angle of view easy. In this example, the architecture reproduced is natural and close to what we see through our eyes.
