A look at the EOS 5D Mark IV, launched by Canon on 25 August 2016 alongside two interchangeable lenses, the EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM and EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM. (Reported by: Makoto Suzuki (Digital Camera Watch))

Following the sales launch of the EOS 5D Mark III in 2012, the EOS 5D Mark IV is the latest model in the EOS 5D series, the cornerstone of Canon’s 35mm full-frame DSLRs, so to speak. It joins the high-resolution EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R, both spinoffs of the EOS 5D III that made their debut in 2015. Included as a kit lens is the EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM, an updated version of a model launched 11 years ago, which makes it the new standard zoom lens for high-resolution cameras.

The EF16-35mm f/2.8L III USM is a third-generation lens that comes after the pioneer-generation and second-generation lens, which were launched in 2001 and 2007 respectively. It offers Canon’s highest image quality, including improved edge-to-edge image quality.

Appearance-wise, on the EOS 5D Mark IV, the N3-type remote control terminal has been repositioned to the front panel where the logo plate has a new design, and an “AF Area Selection Button” has been added to the rear panel. In general, one could make a seamless transition from the EOS 5D Mark III and the like; however, the “shutter experience” is closer to that of the EOS 5DS / 5DS R (due to a different mirror drive mechanism), which took to the stage after the EOS 5D Mark III. Noiseless shooting is facilitated by setting the camera to silent shooting mode.
