Red and Blue

The color contrast between the blue fluorescent of the sponge tube and the red of the small shrimp is amazing. This crustacean is very small (about 3 to 5cm) and live inside the sponge at a depth of 15 to 20 meters. The picture was shooted at Bonaire (Dutch Caribbean). Bonaire is a famous place for expericenced scubadivers. The tourism activity was essentially developped around scubadiving. On this island, you will find more then 80 diving sites from the shore. You can rent a car, diving tanks and explore by yourself the seabed. The marine life is rich and varied, with mainly macro fishes. All diving sites are located on a map. The one where I found this shrimp is named "Carapata". It's a very beautiful coral reef between 5 to 30 meters deep. When I search to find this shrimp, I must to look inside each sponge tubes. It's a big patience game but very relaxing. For this underwater macro photo, I used a CANON EOS 5D Mark II with CANON EF L 100mm macro f2.8 IS USM, a SUBAL underwater housing CD5MII and two underwater strobes subtronics Nova. The weight of the complete system is about 15kg... but neutral buoyancy underwater :-)
