On 27 March 2025, Canon announced the RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ, its first lens to feature a built-in power zoom that enables smooth zooming during video shooting. Designed for APS-C sensor EOS R-series cameras like the EOS R50 V, the wide-angle zoom lens is crafted for effortless content creation and vlogging.
Achieve smooth zoom shots easily
Execute zoom shots with ease
The zoom shot is one of the most basic camera movements for video storytelling. Yet, it can take a lot of practice to execute smoothly by hand—hands up everyone who’s ended up with jittery footage while attempting to zoom out or in!
Enter Canon’s new RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ, which is equipped with a built-in motorised power zoom function that makes it possible to zoom into and out from subjects smoothly at consistent speeds regardless of whether you are in front of the camera, behind it, or operating the camera remotely. It opens the doors to a whole new world of creative expression.

Ring-style power zoom control for operation from any direction
The power zoom can be controlled with the zoom ring, which employs a mid-point returning mechanism that eliminates the starts and stops often encountered when zooming on conventional lenses. Turning the ring more achieves high-speed zooming; turning the ring less achieves slower zooming. In both speed modes, there are 15 selectable zoom speed levels that you can choose based on your creative needs. If you are using the EOS R50 V, you can set the zoom ring and the camera's zoom lever to different speed level settings. Ring-controlled zooming allows you to easily operate the zoom from any angle, even from the front when you are recording yourself.
Zoom lever control with EOS R50 V

When used with the EOS R50 V, for which it is a kit lens, the RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ can also be controlled using the zoom lever on the camera’s top panel. The zoom lever and zoom ring can be assigned different speed level customisations.
Fixed-length design for easy gimbal use

The RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ’s fixed barrel design doesn’t extend or retract when zooming, keeping the same compact 6.2cm barrel length all throughout. This keeps the centre of gravity consistent—perfect for use on a gimbal or in other setups where balance is important.
Supports remote-controlled zoom too
Zoom control can also be carried out via a wireless remote control or app with zoom control functions—great for setups that involve operating the camera remotely.
Versatile focal range ideal for video
A focal range that handles many shooting situations
As a wide-angle zoom lens designed for EOS R series cameras with an APS-C sensor, the RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ delivers a wide field of view equivalent to approximately 22.4mm to 48mm on a full-frame camera. This makes it suitable for situations like selfies and livestreaming, where it captures plenty of background context even when shooting in a small room or at close range. With skilful composition, it produces immersive-looking visuals with the unique wide-angle perspective. The power zoom will be the main appeal to more experienced users, but it’s also a great lens to start your video journey with!
Meanwhile, the longer focal lengths achieve tighter shots with more familiar perspectives—perfect for product close-ups, lifestyle and documentary shots, and other types of footage that call for a more objective point of view.

Shot at the closest focusing distance
The RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ has a short 15cm closest focusing distance, which lets you comfortably fill the frame with smaller objects like food and products on a table in front of you while remaining seated. Its 0.38x maximum magnification, achieved at its 30mm long end, is sufficient for showcasing details such as the fascinating textures of cosmetic products or capturing mouthwatering close-ups of food like strawberries. Play with the power zoom to up the temptation quotient—it’s never been easier to zoom out and zoom in!
Watch: Close-up shooting for product review

Make use of the lens’ short closest focusing distance to showcase product details in your review or demonstration videos! Pro tip: Cameras like the EOS R50 V and EOS R50 have a Movie for Close-up Demo mode that automatically switches the focus from your face to anything you place in front of the camera.
Seamless, reliable deep learning-based autofocusing
Autofocus optimised for both stills and video
The autofocus on the RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ is driven by a highly responsive lead-screw-type STM (stepping motor), which is optimised for both still and video shooting. When shooting videos, it locks onto and tracks subjects seamlessly and quietly; during stills, it snaps onto subjects with high speed and precision. It’s your trustworthy companion that works with the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II/Dual Pixel Intelligent AF on your camera to handle technicalities, freeing you to connect better with your audience and create better, whether you are in front of the camera or behind it.
Up to 5 stops' built-in Optical IS
Excellent image stabilisation
The RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ is made for handheld shooting, and it’s not just its compact size and power zoom that support this. It is equipped with a built-in Optical IS (Image Stabilizer) unit that counteracts camera shake during still image shooting and works with the camera’s Movie Digital IS to keep handheld footage steady even on cameras without In-Body IS. Results are enhanced on cameras that do.

Coordinated Control IS: 5-axis image stabilisation
Coordinated Control IS, where the in-lens Optical IS works in tandem with the camera’s In-Body IS and Movie Digital IS, corrects camera movement along 5 movement axes so footage shot while moving looks seamless even without a gimbal.
Compact and portable
Compact and portable
At approximately 6.2cm long with a weight of only around 180g, the tiny RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ is tailored for small APS-C EOS R series cameras like the EOS R50 V and EOS R50, though it forms a compact setup with any camera in the series. It won’t take up much space in your bag or weigh down your shoulders or neck—great for bringing for travel and exploring new angles! Using it on a full-frame EOS R-series camera will activate the 1.6x crop mode, which records using a smaller image sensor area. (Find out more in: What’s the Difference Between RF-S and RF Lenses?)
It comes in two colours, with the silver variation available exclusively as a kit lens for the EOS R50 V white model.
