On 23 February, CP+2017, this year’s instalment of the “World Premiere Show for Camera and Photo Imaging” held annually in Japan, opened at Pacifico Yokohama in Yokohama City. Exhibits included many newly-announced camera products. In this report, we take a closer look at happenings at Canon’s booth in the show. (Reported by: Makoto Suzuki (Digital Camera Watch))

 

Camera products exhibited in photographic subject-themed corners

Canon’s booth for CP+2017 experimented with a new way of exhibiting products, dividing its entire range of products and services spanning the entire process of image production from input to output between several corners, each of which revolved around a different photography subject. In doing so, it was hoped that visitors to the show would be able to easily find the products most relevant to the scenes they most wanted to shoot.

 

The seminar stage was similarly divided into three different zones: the Left Zone (vehicle, animal and sports); Centre Zone and Right Zone (portraits and street photographs, landscapes and flowers).

 

The exhibit showcasing the EOS 9000D (the EOS 77D in Southeast Asia) was very popular.

This setup allowed users to try out subject tracking with a model train set.

 

Visitors could try out the newly-announced EOS 800D at the portrait photography corner.

 

The gallery, too, was organized according to photography genre.

 

The new compact kit lens, EF-S18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM, side by side with its predecessor.

 

The pocket-sized compact camera PowerShot G9 X Mark II boasts of a 1.0-inch type sensor.

 

There was also a corner that introduced Canon's PHOTOPRESSO and PhotoJewel photobook creation services (available in Japan only).

 

 

Up close with specialized staff carrying out maintenance services

An eye-opener was a corner where visitors had the chance to observe up close specialized staff from Canon Service Centres in Japan carry out basic maintenance checks and camera exterior cleaning, right at the CP+2017 venue.

Visitors could bring in their cameras and lenses for servicing, including cleaning of the body exterior.

 

There were also exhibits that gave a glimpse at the soon-to-come era of 8K movie shooting, possibly a reflection of equipment manufacturers pushing the accelerator on their development of products capable of shooting 4K to 8K movies in anticipation of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
