3 Add-Ons to Power-Up Your EOS R5 and EOS R6
Planning to buy either the EOS R5 or EOS R6? You might also want to consider getting some accessories that will add to the functionality of your new camera and make it even more convenient to operate. From faster, more powerful, more secure Wi-Fi and networking connections to longer shooting times and a more comfortable hold during vertical orientation shooting, here are three new accessories to give your new EOS R5 or EOS R6 a boost.
New accessories:
- Battery Grip BG-R10
- LP-E6NH battery
- Wireless File Transmitter WFT-R10
Battery Grip BG-R10: Easier vertical shooting, longer shooting durations
Some shoots like those for weddings, sports, and other events can feel like marathons, and you don't want to risk missing moments by stopping to change batteries. Keep in pace with the Battery Grip BG-R10, which accommodates two battery packs to achieve a longer shooting duration. It is also designed to make vertical shooting even easier.
EOS R5 + Battery Grip BG-R10
EOS R6 + Battery Grip BG-R10
The Battery Grip BG-R10 can be used with either the EOS R5 or EOS R6 as these cameras basically have the same body shape and controls. Put in two battery packs (LP-E6NH, LP-E6N or LP-E6) to shoot almost twice the number of shots! With the same dust and drip resistant design as the EOS R5 and EOS R6, the battery grip is built to withstand professional shooting conditions.
Number of possible shots during still shooting*
Camera only | With Battery Grip BG-R10 (2 batteries) | |
EOS R5 | Approx. 490 shots | Approx. 970 shots |
EOS R6 | Approx. 590 shots | Approx. 1020 shots |

Vertical shooting made more comfortable
Thanks to their social media-friendly properties, portrait orientation shots are more popular than ever, and if you take lots of such shots, you can rejoice. Battery Grip BG-R10 duplicates many of the controls found on the camera top panel, such as the shutter button, Multi-controller, and other dials and functions, making it much easier to operate the camera when holding it vertically. You might just find yourself shooting in that orientation for longer durations that ever!
When the batteries in the grip are depleted, you don’t have to take them out to recharge them either. USB recharging is supported: simply attach the USB Power Adapter PD-E1 (sold separately) to the USB-C port on your EOS R5 or EOS R6. To ensure your safety when the batteries are recharging, the Battery Grip BG-R10 also has a new system that checks and verifies the battery pack inside.
LP-E6NH battery: Same size as LP6N, higher capacity
The battery pack that comes bundled with the EOS R5 and EOS R6 is the same size as the LP-E6N (1865 mAh) that is used by many existing enthusiast and advanced EOS camera models, but has a higher capacity of 2130 mAh.
LP-E6NH | LP-E6N | LP-E6 |
2130 mAh | 1865 mAh | 1800 mAh |
The LP-E6NH can also be purchased separately if you need backup batteries for your compatible camera.

Wireless File Transmitter WFT-R10: Adds faster, more secure network connections; wireless linked shooting capabilities
The EOS R5 is equipped with built-in support for the 5GHz Wi-Fi band, which provides a faster, more stable connection that benefits file transfer and remote camera operations with a smartphone, tablet, or computer. However, if you require a faster, even more secure wireless/wired connection, such as for news reporting or studio uses, the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-R10 will further enhance your network functionality.
Up to two times’ faster Wi-Fi connection
While the EOS R5 has one built-in Wi-Fi antenna, the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-R10 has two dual-band ones (5GHz/2.4GHz) that support 2x2 MIMO (multi-input and multi-output), a smart antenna technology that improves communication speed and quality. For example, when we compare the theoretical fastest link speeds possible on the 5GHz (IEEE 802.11ac) band, the built-in Wi-Fi on the EOS R5 is capable of approximately 433 Mbps, while the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-R10 is capable of approximately 867 Mbps—up to two times faster*.
This promises to speed up the workflow for situations involving wireless remote control shooting, or where quick upload of image and video files for sharing with production teammates or clients is necessary. It is also useful for creating a wireless studio environment that ensures better safety!
*The theoretical fastest link speeds will differ from the actual communication speed.
Support for 1000Base-T wired LAN for even faster speed and stability
For those situations where further speed and network stability is necessary, the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-R10 also supports 1000Base-T wired LAN. This is especially handy for sports and current affairs reporting, where a large volume of image and video files, including high-speed continuous shooting, RAW, and HEIF files, can be transferred at high-speed for instant use.

Longer communication distances; wireless linked shooting capability*
Able to communicate over longer distances than the built-in Wi-Fi on the EOS R5, the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-R10 endows the EOS R5 with basic wireless linked shooting capability. Connect your main, “sender” camera to the network, sync it with your receiver camera(s) that can be placed as far as 50m away, and you will be able to release the shutter on the cameras at the same time. The faster connection speed supports the maximum 20 fps burst capabilities of the EOS R5. You can now capture the same fast-moving scene from different angles even without an assistant.
*Wireless linked shooting is not supported on the EOS R6.

Enhanced security and stability; improved UI
In consideration of how it would probably mainly be used for professional purposes, the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-R10 contains various features to enhance the security and stability of data transfer. This includes some improvements over the existing wireless file transmitters:
- Support for the SFTP protocol, which provides an even higher level of security than the FTP and FTPS protocols supported by the EOS R5, allowing safer direct transfer of files from a camera to a file server.
- Support for IEEE 802.1X, authentication standard for LAN connections. This supports WPA2 Enterprise, which conducts authentication via an authentication server.
In addition, functionality and user interface has been enhanced to improve user experience:
- The FTP file transfer display has been improved to make it easier for users to keep track of the transfer progress.
- Support for voice memo recording to other image files during FTP transfer.
- If the camera is turned off while files are waiting to be re-transferred, automatic re-transfer will occur when the camera is turned on and reconnected.

Designed for easy vertical-orientation shooting
Just like the Battery Grip BG-R10, the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-R10 has controls that enable easier operation of the camera during vertical shooting, such as a shutter button and multi-controller.
The Wireless File Transmitter WFT-R10 takes two battery packs. One powers the camera and the other powers the Wireless File Transmitter itself, so that the number of shots possible on a single charge isn’t reduced. If you are using LP-E6NH battery, you can also charge it through USB by attaching USB Power Adapter PD-E1.
The same dust and drip resistant structure as the EOS R5 is also adopted, so that you can use the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-R10 with ease in a variety of shooting environments.
