Canon has announced the release of the "EOS 5DS" and "EOS 5DS R", both built in with a CMOS sensor with a resolution of about 50.6 megapixels. For those who are interested in knowing more about the EOS 5DS and the EOS 5DS R, you are recommended to check out this article on the different parts of the cameras as well as their menus. (Reported by: Osamu Takeishi (Digital Camera Watch))

50 Megapixels Finally Exceeded Well-equipped Full-frame SLRs

The following is a visual review of the "EOS 5DS" and "EOS 5DS R". Both models are new members of the "EOS 5" family, and are equipped with a 35mm full-frame sensor. They are characterised by the use of a CMOS sensor with an effective pixel count of about 50.6 megapixels, a significantly higher spec compared to their predecessor, the "EOS 5D Mark III". With this advancement, bold cropping is made possible, and new shooting techniques can also be expected.

The difference between the EOS 5DS and the 5DS R is that the former is installed with an optical low-pass filter (LPF), while the low-pass filter effect is cancelled on the latter. Both cameras take on almost the same appearance, with the logo plate being the only discernible difference.

Both models also have similar controls as the EOS 5D Mark III, such as the button layout and menus, so users who have upgraded from the EOS 5D Mark III should not have any difficulty getting used to their operation.

Appearance (EOS 5DS)

Appearance (EOS 5DS R)

The EOS 5DS R shares almost the same appearance as the EOS 5DS, except that the logo plate of the EOS 5DS is gold in colour, while that of the EOS 5DS R is silver.
