Exploring Negative Spaces
EOS RP, RF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens, f4.0, 24mm, 1/200 sec, ISO250
Negative space is a concept that has existed for hundreds of years. It is one of the more interesting composition rules to create an impactful image. Negative space is the space that surrounds your subject, and in this case, the dark space that envelopes the building. The space helps to draw your attention to the building. When composing the shot, be generous with the amount of negative space and steer away from clutter. Think of it as a space to breathe.

Capturing the Movement of Life
EOS RP, RF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens, f22, 105mm, 8sec, ISO100
Some fleeting moments are worth capturing, especially when we live in such a fast-paced world where we often miss out on the things that are happening around us. We switch the setting to a slower shutter speed and set our camera at a spot to capture the movement of passersby. The blurry trail of people travelling up and down the escalator gives us a sense of movement, fluidity and more importantly, a different perspective when looking at our day-to-day travel.
Camera Settings to Use for Awesome Slow Shutter Shots tells us all about the settings you need for such shots.
Moving Cars in Motion
Another way to capture the movement of life is through a timelapse video. With a built-in 4K timelapse shooting mode, photographers can easily set the camera at a spot, and let the timelapse function works its magic. One great way to utilise the timelapse mode is to shoot moving traffic. Notice the coming and going of the lights at the back/front of the cars, and the changing brightness and colours in the sky as the minutes – compressed into seconds – pass.
Seeing the Whole Picture

A close-up shot with all subjects in focus may sound like an oxymoron, but it is possible with Focus Bracketing, an innovative feature in the camera to help take a number of shots, and then through the Canon’s Digital Photo Professional software, stitch them together to give the photographer a photo with corner-to-corner clarity. This is a great tool if you want to showcase a macro subject without a shallow depth of field.

Shine Bright in the Dark
EOS RP, RF24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens, f4.0, 105mm, 1/13 sec, ISO1600
Some cameras may have difficulties focusing at night due to the lack of light. With EOS RP, there is no such problem. The camera’s autofocus is able to detect subjects in low light of up to EV-5, which means even if it gets really dark, the camera can still focus and produce a sharp image, making it effortless for you to shoot at night. This is not only useful in the evening, but also when one is shooting indoors, such as at a party, concert, museum, etc..
