There’s a new flagship premium compact camera in town, and it’s all geared up to meet diverse video and content creation needs! Equipped with a new 1.4-inch CMOS image sensor and retractable 16-50mm equivalent zoom lens in a tiny body that weighs just around 426g, the PowerShot V1 is packed with powerful features that make it nearly like a mini EOS R system mirrorless camera. Read on to learn more about what it’s capable of.
1. Powerful features in a tiny package
1. Powerful features in a tiny package
They say that the best camera is the one that’s always with you, and the sleek little PowerShot V1 fits the bill perfectly. Weighing just around 426g and equipped with a retractable zoom lens, it fits easily into your everyday bag, ready for whenever inspiration strikes. Its small size also means it will fit on a smaller tripod grip or gimbal: perfect for spicing up your footage with dynamic camera movement.
At the same time, its tiny size and intuitive interface belies its powerful specs that will satisfy discerning creators who want better quality visuals and more sophisticated workflow possibilities. The PowerShot V1 sports a new 1.4-inch image sensor, which is approximately twice the size of the 1-inch-type sensor on most compact cameras and premium smartphones, promising high-quality visuals with its better light-gathering qualities. There’s also the intelligent deep learning-based Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system, which is found on Canon’s EOS R-series cameras, and features like 10-bit Canon Log 3 gamma recording, which is ideal for colour grading.

At 18.4 x 12.3mm , the PowerShot V1’s 1.4-inch sensor is approximately twice the size of the 1-inch type sensors on most other compact cameras including the PowerShot V10 and G7 X Mark III. This enables it to deliver better quality images even in dim lighting.
The PowerShot V1 is also equipped with features that existing EOS R series mirrorless cameras don’t have, such as an integrated cooling fan, which reduces internal heating, and a built-in 3-stop ND filter, which allows better exposure control when shooting video in bright conditions.
Know this: The first PowerShot camera with a cooling fan

The PowerShot V1 is Canon’s first PowerShot camera to feature a cooling fan, which is commonly found on professional Cinema EOS cameras. It actively cools the heat generated inside the camera so you can continuously record video or livestream for over 2 hours even at 4K 30p*!

2. Get creative easily
2. Easy creativity
Despite its powerful core features, the PowerShot V1 is designed to make realising your ideal visuals easy and fuss-free. You’ll find it a joy to use even if you are time-stretched or less inclined towards video post-production or technicalities.
For starters, there’s the integrated wide-angle zoom lens—so versatile that you needn’t go down the lens rabbit hole (but if you want to, we also have the camera for that). One press of the zoom button is all you need to go from selfie-friendly wide to closeups perfect for that mouthwatering ASMR food reel. With a full-frame equivalent focal range of 16-50mm for stills, and 17-52mm for video, it equips you for anything from travelogs to interviews, and even your first short film or documentary!
The PowerShot V1’s wide-angle end is perfect for group selfies.
PowerShot V1/ FL: approx. 18mm (full-frame equivalent)/ Aperture-priority AE (f/2.8, 1/6400 sec)/ ISO 200/ WB: Manual
Love playing with colours but not inclined towards colour grading log files? You can also choose from 14 colour filters to make your footage look more cinematic straight out of the camera, whether that means retro film-like colours, classic teal and orange, various matte looks, or something different altogether.
Tally lamp and bundled windjammer
The PowerShot V1 comes bundled with a windjammer (“dead cat windshield”) that reduces unwanted noise caused by wind or breathing, keeping audio crisp and clear. The tally lamp in front provides a visual cue so you won’t end up projecting your YouTube persona for 10 minutes, only to realise nothing was recording.
Fully articulating LCD touchscreen

Flip it out, rotate it around. With Canon’s Vari-angle touchscreen rear LCD monitor, you won’t break a sweat (or a neck) trying to see your shot when shooting from unconventional angles that will leave your audience mind-blown.
A pleasure to hold
There’s also the ergonomically designed grip, shaped to help you keep the camera firm and steady regardless of whether you are behind the camera or holding it to face you while shooting selfies. There are many situations you might find yourself shooting one-handed, such as when you need your other hand on the railings for safety, or to hold lights or props. The PowerShot V1’s zoom, recording, and shutter buttons are designed for convenient one-handed access so you can reach them without finger gymnastics.
3. Beautiful image quality, amazing detail
3. Beautiful image quality that captures subtle nuances
Watch: Oversampled 4K 30p video from the PowerShot V1
The PowerShot V1’s large 1.4-inch image sensor records still images with up to 22.3 effective megapixels, and video with up to 18.7 effective megapixels, capturing subtle nuances in colours, textures, and tones. This resolution also enables it to shoot high-quality 4K 30p video oversampled from 5.7K using the full width of the sensor, resulting in enhanced image quality, sharpness, and detail. Cropped 4K 60p video is available for users who need smoother high-resolution footage of fast-moving action with slow-motion possibilities.
With a native ISO speed range that goes two stops wider than the PowerShot G7 X Mark III—up to ISO 32,000 for stills and ISO 12,800 for video, the PowerShot V1 offers greater low-light flexibility. Think cinematic footage in moody ambient light, clean and clear without needing extra lighting!
4. Advanced technology, fuss-free usage
4. Creative freedom without worrying about technicalities
The PowerShot V1 is filled with advanced Canon technologies that help you nail technicalities like stabilisation and focusing, so you can concentrate on engaging your audience and unleashing your creativity.
Watch: Seamless subject tracking with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II
Swift, precise, and intelligent Dual Pixel CMOS AF II can detect and track the eyes of humans, cats, and dogs. It automatically tracks moving subjects tenaciously over 90% x 90% of the frame, freeing your mind up for other tasks.
Creators who do product reviews or demos can use the Movie for close-up demos AF mode, which intelligently switches the focus from your face to an object closest to the camera so you don’t have to cover your face with your hands. Smooth skin movie mode ensures that whoever’s in front of the camera will always look good—even when you are using the camera for livestreaming.
Watch: Subject Tracking IS mode
*When [Subject Tracking IS] is set, [Movie Electronic IS] and [Movie Auto Horizontal Compensation] are disabled. Not available for 4K crop 60p and Smooth Skin videos. The angle of view will be narrower than the full image.
You also now have two different ways to keep handheld footage steady: the new Subject Tracking IS, which uses subject recognition to keep the subject’s position in the frame when correcting camera shake, or the traditional 5-axis Movie Digital IS mode, which uses both the lens’ optical IS and electronic IS for enhanced stabilisation so the footage looks steady and pleasant even if it was shot while you’re walking.

PowerShot V1/ FL: approx. 50mm (full-frame equivalent)/ Manual exposure (f/4.5, 1/1000 sec)/ ISO 1600/ WB: Auto

With a simple flick of the Photo/Video mode switch, the PowerShot V1 transforms into a capable stills camera with advanced features that offer finer image control, including support for RAW, CRAW, and HDR PQ HEIF recording. It has a mode dial that offers the traditional P, Av, Tv, M options and three programmable custom shooting modes (C1-C3). You can get creative without worrying about exposure settings with the Special Scene mode and Creative filters.
